Douglas Edward Nevill 1970s East Texas Hunting Experience

Douglas Edward Nevill 1970s East Texas Hunting Experience

My name is Douglas Edward Nevill.  I had an experience in the early to mid 1970s in East Texas while Hunting with my dad and brother.

In the mid 1990s, while I was pastoring a church in Washington State and visiting a man that had attended our church that had worked in the national parks service for decades.

I was a Bigfoot believer simply because so many people have reported seeing it (including several individuals that attended my church).  I had not thought about the experience that I'm going to be sharing with you below in a long while.  It was traumatic and I had largely compartmentalized it out of my mind.

Anyway this man I was visiting asked me if I believed in Bigfoot and told me he had something that he wanted me to hear. He brought out a cassette recorder and played some sounds that he and others have recorded while they were in the national parks here in US.  What I heard literally made chills run up my back and brought the memory back to the forefront of my mind - the memory I'm going to share with you below.

I was squirrel hunting with my dad and my older brother in the early 70s.  We were hunting in a creek bottom in East Texas (either the Chambers or Richland).  I was familiar with sounds made by forest animals and could identify many of them by movement or calls.

My dad was a brave man I had never seen him scared before.  There were some loud sounds that we all heard - I would guess within a hundred yards from where we were in the thicket.  I remember my dad motioning for us to crouch low as he did and motioned for us to be quiet.

All of our heads turned to follow the violent sounds of something crashing through the forest causing the breaks of what had to be small trees or large branches in its wake.

We also heard this thing making vocal noises.  I can't remember exactly what now but what I do recall was it sounded like many different forest animals with their sounds running together.  I remember distinctly the sound of a peacock the sound of a howling big cat and the sound some kind of deep roar that I had never heard before.  To add to this, the unsettling creepy super-loud screams like the sound of a woman screaming and it all came from the same thing.

We never saw anything.  But whatever it was it had to be big.  No man and no other animal that I know of would be breaking things big enough to make the loud cracks that that thing was as it ran through the forest.

I remember looking at my dad and either I or my brother asked him what was that?  I remember his face was white with fear and that terrified me.  I know he used a lot of colorful language saying he did not know but we were getting out of there.  We quickly got out of the bottom back to the pickup and I don't remember that we ever talked about it again.  I don't recall any conversations we had in the pickup either. Maybe we did but I don't remember.

Where I live now, the Olympic national Park is only 200 yards from my home.  I don't hunt but I do go on hikes occasionally but I never go alone.  I will tell my companions that the Sasquatch is in the forest and is aware that we are there that we will probably not see it but it will definitely be watching us.

I'm not sure what the Sasquatch or Bigfoot creature is.  I have never seen it but I can believe the eyewitness accounts of thousands of others that have.

Out of curiosity, I would love to see it from a safe distance. I'd like to have binoculars so I could see it clearly.

It's seems to me that there should be an acknowledgement of these creatures. There are things that are happening for which we do not have good answers and I think those answers are likely known but are being hidden from us.
